The reader, rebuilt
v1.9.34 – v1.9.37
Reading is now distraction-free: the toolbars are gone, replaced by one floating bar, and eBooks is a proper library.
- One floating bar for Contents, display, Listen and AI Chat, plus a back arrow, bookmark and pages-left count.
- Contents follows your place; footnotes open in a popup; links inside a book are tappable; the book's own illustrations are shown.
- Ragged or Justified text, Slide, Curl or Fade page turns, five margin steps, and a font from your phone or one you upload.
- The library shows recently opened books, a Yet to Read grid, authors, sorting and one-tap Play on every cover.
- Now Playing has the cover, highlighted sentence, scrubber, speed and a narrator picker; books and topics can be pinned to the drawer.
English, German & French
v1.9.36
The whole interface — every screen, menu and message — now speaks your language.
- English, German and French, chosen with the flag beside the dark-mode switch; the app remembers your choice.
- About → Help translate opens the community translation page.
- Legal documents remain in English.
Book chat finds the right page
v1.9.35
Ask about a character and the assistant answers from the scene that tells you, not just the chapter's opening.
- On lighter on-device models, book chat now retrieves the part of the chapter where the answer actually lives.
- If a model starts repeating itself, the answer stops at the first repeat and keeps the clean result.
- Fact-checking is more reliable too.
Audiobooks that read along
v1.9.25 – v1.9.32
Import an audiobook and the book follows the voice — fully offline.
- Import MP3, AAC or ZIP, or transcribe audio already in Files with a tap.
- The narrated sentence is highlighted line by line, in plays and poetry too, and play starts at the page you are reading.
- Long books go chapter by chapter: finished chapters are playable while the rest transcribes in the background; the first chapter is ready in about a minute.
- Stopping is only a pause — playback resumes exactly where it left off, even after a restart.
- Everything stays on your device; LibriVox.org has thousands of free audiobooks to try.
Read-aloud, everywhere
v1.9.2 – v1.9.24
One read-aloud engine for the whole app, with the page following the voice.
- Pick the AI voice or your device's native system speech in Settings; native adds word karaoke.
- The choice applies everywhere — chat answers included — and three sample books (Moby Dick, Pride & Prejudice, Romeo & Juliet) ship in eBooks.
- Read-aloud keeps the spoken sentence in view: when the reader goes full-screen, the page follows the voice instead of drifting.
- Previous and next sentence controls follow both ways.
Words, highlights & notes
v1.9.20 – v1.9.21
Long-press a word and the reader becomes a study tool.
- Copy it, share it, highlight it in five colours, attach a note, or look it up.
- Look-up downloads an offline English dictionary once, then works with no internet at all.
- Ask the on-device model what the word means in the sentence you are reading; dictionary meanings appear under the answer.
- Highlights, notes and bookmarks are saved per book, and bookmarks sit next to the chapter list.
- Double-tap a word to act on it directly; long-press the speaker to pick the read-aloud voice.
Video dubbing in another language
v1.9.18
Export a video re-voiced with an AI voice, in the language you choose.
- Correct the transcript in the built-in editor first; the dub, burned-in subtitles and .srt all speak the corrected text.
- Pick a voice in another language and the dub is translated.
- Burn subtitles into the picture, or keep the original untouched — no quality loss when not burning.
- The original video is remembered, so a repeat export starts right away; progress is shown and the save step says what was done.
Voice, dictation & translate
v1.9.0 – v1.9.17
Talk to the app and it answers out loud — all on-device.
- Voice assistant (Beta): tap the mic and talk; transcription, the answer and the spoken reply all run on your device; choose the model and Short, Normal or Detailed answers.
- Dictation in chat: each spoken pause is transcribed offline and appended to your message; the mic rings pulse with your voice and it works in airplane mode.
- Translate mode: pick the language you speak and the target; each turn shows the transcript above the translation; tap either to replay the recording.
- Edit a transcript inline to re-translate; hands-free auto-listen can be set separately for answer and translate.
Plugins: the web on your terms
v1.9.0 – v1.9.17
Optional abilities live in separate apps — the host itself keeps no network access.
- Web search runs in a visible browser tab, so you see the search and the pages it reads; answers draw from up to three result pages.
- By default you approve each search — Approve, Edit or Skip, including spoken yes/no in voice; automatic approval is optional.
- Pages that don't need a browser are fetched directly; settings cover images, JavaScript and wipe-on-close.
- Features → Plugins switches Internet Search and LiveCast on per plugin; an entry point appears only while the plugin is on.
- The host still has no INTERNET permission — only the plugin apps hold network access.
MiniCPM 5 1B for low-RAM phones
v1.9.0+75 – v1.9.0+76
A new 1B model brings on-device AI to phones that cannot run the larger Gemma models.
- Faster, more responsive answers and a bigger context window than the previous 1B.
- Delivered as a 793 MB on-demand pack; a 4 GB phone runs chat, transcription, read-aloud and document chat.
- The voice assistant is hidden at 4 GB or less — it needs more than 4 GB and a Gemma 4 model.
- On phones with 6 GB or more, the app no longer suggests the 1B.
